Lugano ist ein weiterer Flugplatz, der von den Piloten wahres Wissen und Können abverlangen. Da relativ hohe Hügel einen normalen Sinkflug auf die Piste 01 verhindern, wurde auch hier ein sogenanntes IGS - Instrument Guidance System - installiert. Mit 6.65° ist es mehr also doppelt so steil wie ein normales ILS (3°) und erfordert daher gute Vorbereitung und Beherrschung des eigenen Flugzeugs. Will man die Piste 19 anfliegen, muss man erst einem LOC/DME Anflug auf die Piste 01 folgen um dann nach Sicht ein Circling zu fliegen.

Lugano is another airport that demands knowledge and skill from pilots. Due to high terrain surrounding the airport the approach on RWY 01 follows an IGS - Instrument Guidance System. With 6.65° it is more than double the slope of a normal ILS (3°), thus requiring good preparation and control of the aircraft. When approaching RWY 19 one first has to approach RWY 01 with a LOC/DME and afterwards proceeding with visual circling.

Landing RWY 01 for all aircraft with qualification for an IGS App (Caution steep Glideslope of 6.65°) For all other aircraft LOC-DME approach with circling to RWY 19. Departure RWY 19 with tailwind components up to 5 kts. Otherwise, RWY 01 will be used.
