PTD Bulletin January 2025 - Mountain flying

There is rarely anything more exciting, than flying in the mountains. In Switzerland, there are multiple opportunities to enjoy the rocky landscape. However, flying at high altitudes in aircrafts equipped with limited power is not trivial. The attached newsletter edited by @Daniil Shulga·1484307 explains the basics of flying VFR in mountainous areas. Enjoy reading – and practicing.

AIRAC 2411 at LSAG Airspace

Dear pilots of VACC Switzerland and all over the globe

With AIRAC 2411 just introduced, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that there are significant changes in Swiss airspace: all SIDs and STARs in LSGG, and some at the smaller fields nearby, have been updated and renamed. We therefore kindly urge you to update your equipment with the most recent AIRAC data and make sure you have the current charts ready. Our Ops Department has been working tirelessly to update the charts for timely release, which you will find on www.charts.vacc.ch.

As per VATSIM Code of Conduct Article B14 you must be able to follow IFR procedures based on current charts and navigational data. While our controllers will try their best to guide you safely into Geneva or out to the world on old procedures if they have capacity, please note that in situations of high traffic you might not be served with first priority if you are unable to follow the new procedures.

With good preparation you will avoid delays, reclearances and an increased workload for our fellow ATCOs. Thanks in advance and we are looking forward to welcoming you at Geneva soon to discover all the new SIDs!

PTD Bulletin October 24 – «Hold short» – «Vacate»

BIGJET 123, TAXI N, LEFT E, E8, HOLD SHORT RWY34 ILS CRITICAL AREA

Ground movements inhere a significant risk of collisions or contact between aircrafts. Unlike road traffic, there are neither traffic lights nor traffic guides physically present on the apron of aviation ground movement. To always assure a safe distance between aircrafts, air traffic controllers issue specific instructions for taxiing by radio only, which pilots must know how to comply with.

This bulletin highlights specific situations and rules on how to read and follow ATC instructions on the ground.
