Sion ist mitten im Wallis gelegen, das Rhonetal ist wohl eine der charakteristischsten Anhaltspunkte dort. Beim IGS-Anflug, der Piloten in einem steilen Sinkwinkel zum Flugplatz führt und der dann aber am Ende noch nach Sicht angeflogen werden muss, erblickt man so bekannte Dinge wie den Mont Blanc, das Matterhorn und den Aletsch-Gletscher.
Zu einem Flug nach Sion gehört eine ordentliche Flugvorbereitung mit der entsprechenden IGS-Karte und den speziellen Informationen. Landschaftlich und fliegerisch gehört dieser Flugplatz zu einem der schönsten und anspruchsvollsten Orte in Europa!

Sion is situated in the middle of the canton of Valais. With its IGS approach, pilots decend at a steeper angle and must approach visually. At that occasion the pilot has a wonderful view at Mont Blanc - the highest mountain in Europe, Matterhorn and Aletsch glacier. For a successful arrival into Sion a proper preparation with the IGS-charts and special information is essential. Scenically as well as aeronautically, this airport is one of the most challenging but also one of the most beatiful places to fly to.
